About this artist

Louis Rosemond was born on November 18, 1957, in Port-au-Prince, Haiti. At the age of eight, he had taken an interest in music and painting. Rosemond never had any formal training. His favorite subjects include colorful market scenes and tropical jungle scenes densely populated with vegetation and wildlife. His primitive style is reminiscent of the French Post Impressionist Henri Rousseau. According to the artist, his jungle scenes portray Haiti's paradise when he was a child. His work has been exhibited internationally. Venues include Venezuela (1984), Australia, Puerto Rico (1984), and Curacao (1984) and in his native Haiti. His work was featured in the definitive work on Haitian art “Les Naives Haitiennes” and in the historical work “Voodoo Kingdom to Modern Riviera” by John Allen Franciscus.” Rosemond’s artistic career is also documented in “Haitian Art in the diaspora.” A resident of Miami, the artist has exhibited in galleries in Delray Beach and Dania Beach. His work has been shown for the last few years at Art Basel in Miami Beach. One can see large Frescoes and other masterworks at the Miami Beach Botanical Gardens.
